if you are thinking about getting into the academia or are really passionate about research, then fine

but usually RA are shitty positions with little value added to the prof's work

not good for CV building as well since I think RA's work is fundamentally no different with your usual coursework at school: research, reading, writing papers

so from the employer's perspective: more studying, forgoing practical working experience in corporations
